Glass Pavilion, designed by M Space, a culturally rooted meditation space, is located on the 4th floor of True Digital Park in the bustling urban city of Bangkok. An architectural glass jewel structure that floats quietly above the city, acting as a pause in the busy lifestyle. Envisioned as a public meditation hub, it helps urban professionals to practice meditation and improve work efficiency. The glass pavilion offers a place to reflect, breathe, and invites to a journey that enhances the mental wellbeing and explores a new typology for urban spirituality.
Iconic Glass Pavilion in Bangkok’s Urban Core
Walking into True Digital Park, the spirit of the pavilion hovers in place, a space between sky and earth. The subtle shift arises as the outside spaces vanish, and the visitor crosses the threshold of stillness, blending the line between transparency and the significance of spirituality. Pakorn Mahapant consciously designed the glass Pavilion narrative, transforming the space into an experiential language that transcends mere bricks and mortar.
Inspired by the wisdom of ancient Thai religious architectural elements, a symbolic embrace of the stupa, soothing presence of a Vihara deciphered into the glass and steel structure for the modern design of sacred space.
Spatial Experience crafted in materiality and light
Spanning across 200 sqm, the spatial configuration feels expansive, a remarkably sensitive design. Adopting the wisdom of narrow passages of Sukhothai-era temples like Wat Si Chum, light adds drama, as one steps forward in gentle layers like a lotus blooming at sunrise, a symbolic shedding of the external world.
The strategically placed slender steel truss rising vertically becomes a structure, a transparent skin that shapes the very essence, and above horizontal shelves capture sunlight, diffusing it into a soft glow as it playfully dances within the space. During the day, it dissolves into light. At dusk, it becomes a prism of golden tones, glowing from within. This approach of design guides the mind and body in crafting experimental experiences and discovering the essence of living mindfully.
The vertical steel fins filter the sunlight, and the teakwood benches outline the edges of the pavilion, adding dramatic light and character to the structure. Stepping ahead, the reflecting pool catches one’s eye, mirroring the pavilion to the sky, creating an engaging and experiential dialogue between built form and surroundings with the passing clouds and the moving light.
Glass Pavilion as a Modern Thai Retreat
The glass pavilion follows the sacred geometry of the vihara and stupa forms, a silhouette of northern Thai temples in a triangular gable, while a layered roofscape is inspired by stupas, a true beauty crafted in scale and proportion. It holds silent meditation sessions, mindful workshops, and moments of solitude where people can disconnect from the external world to meet their inner selves. A modern solution of architecture that does not speak loudly, but instead, listens. It’s a narrative of peace, a language of unsaid words, and a structure that gives a sense of belonging deeply rooted in the contextual background.
