India’s First Disneyland-Style Theme Park Set for Manesar in 500-Acre Mega Project

Haryana is laying the cornerstone for India’s version of Disneyland. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has unveiled plans for a colossal 500-acre Disneyland-style theme park in Manesar, Haryana. Strategically located near Delhi along the KMP Expressway and Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor, the entertainment hub, though still awaiting Disney’s formal green light in a new chapter for India’s tourism aspirations, promises thousands of jobs and a massive boost for infrastructure and cultural tourism.

A Theme Park of Global Scale In India

State officials confirm that the Manesar development aims to emulate the global benchmarks set by Disneyland parks in Paris, Tokyo, California, and Shanghai. Though The Walt Disney Company has yet to issue an official statement or confirm involvement, the Haryana government has already begun preliminary groundwork.

Strategically placed along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), the site offers seamless connectivity to Delhi, Gurugram, and the upcoming 1,000-acre Global City, making it an ideal location to attract both domestic and international tourists.

“This is more than just entertainment,” Saini said at a press conference following discussions with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. “It’s a catalytic investment that will redefine the region’s identity and deliver long-term gains in tourism, real estate, and employment.”

    Economic Lift-Off for Haryana

The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, while giving a major boost to local businesses, transport infrastructure, and hospitality services. Officials say the state aims to draw both private investors and central funding to support not just the theme park, but the ecosystem around it.

The location minutes from Gurugram’s corporate core is a calculated choice. With soaring land value, dense connectivity, and proximity to Global City (Haryana’s flagship smart city project), Manesar is set to emerge as a tourism and commercial powerhouse.

To complement the modern theme park, the Haryana government is also rebranding its cultural calendar. The famed Surajkund Crafts Mela will expand into a thrice-yearly affair with new editions like the Diwali Fair and a state-run Book Fair. Kurukshetra’s International Gita Mahotsav is also on the roadmap for expansion with government support.

This blend of global attractions and regional heritage aims to offer a tourism experience unique to India, one that combines thrill with tradition.

A Look Back and the Political Undercurrent

The excitement surrounding the announcement brings back memories of a similar, but much larger, attempt in 1989, when then-CM Om Prakash Chautala proposed a 28,000-acre theme park. That plan fell apart after massive farmer protests. This time, BJP leaders are emphasizing their commitment to a fair and consensual process.

“Our opposition back then was to forced land acquisition,” said BJP spokesperson Arun Yadav. “This project is on a much smaller scale and fully respects the rights of landowners.”

But not everyone is convinced. INLD leader Abhay Chautala called the new plan hypocritical, noting that if the original proposal had gone through, “Haryana would have been a tax-free state by now.”

    So, Is Disney Actually Coming?

That remains the big question. So far, there has been no confirmation from Disney itself. Officials are framing the park as “Disneyland-style,” meaning it may borrow thematic cues and operational models from existing parks, but not necessarily bear the Disney brand, at least not yet.

Regardless, the ambition is clear. India’s long-standing gap in world-class theme parks is finally being addressed, and Manesar is where the stage is being set.
