Kengo Kuma and Associates provide a student center at the entrance of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, named Hisao & Hiroko Taki Plaza. The project is a partially underground structure hidden with wooden bleachers. The reason behind this approach is to preserve views of the campus clock tower that is Tokyo’s oldest building and the landmark of the campus. Indeed, the project aims to serve as the new landmark student center inspired by the clock tower.
Metaform Architects’ Luxembourg pavilion at World Expo 2020 Dubai intends to express Luxembourg’s past, present, and future and the values of the country in a true manner.
“Gantry Crane,” the winner of the Cuntan International Cruise Center design competition, is a project designed by MAD architects collaborating with the China Academy of Building Research (CASR) by an impression from the giant orange gantry cranes of the freight terminal. These cranes look like surrealist aliens, providing insight into designing a futuristic city.
World-renowned Turkish artist and sculptor Seçkin Pirim has designed the ‘Gate of Zero’ pavilion as a permanent sculpture for the Joali Being, a wellness center located on Bodufushi Island in the Maldives. The designer used complex algorithms using parametric design and computational tools to generate the pavilion’s geometry. The statue-like geometry serves as a gateway and welcomes visitors to the island. Inspired by the skirt form of whirling dervishes, the pavilion allows visitors to walk through it and enjoy the inner spaces.

What is parametricism all about? A growing interest has been seen in parametric architecture, as it offers a new approach towards architectural language that is based on advanced computational design techniques that turn into an enabler to create complex geometries. Designers are turning towards this new tool of parametric architecture now more than ever. One of the pivotal terms in the late 90s that came into existence was parametricism; a term hinted by the legend Zaha Hadid.

STERLING PRESSER Architects+Engineers envisioned the new construction of the ‘Sport Arena Wien’ to create a new sustainable landmark with the theme of ‘Green Architecture’ for the city of Vienna in Austria. The project aims to find a high-quality architectural solution that presents the arena with the outdoor space in an overall ensemble.
Wind Pavilion, designed and woven by Tongji CAUP, presents a bamboo-structured pavilion at the Longshanyuan in Anji City. The abode serves the tourists as a place to rest. The shelter can accommodate a small group for performances and team-building events. The curvaceous design enfolds various landscape characteristics from diverse aspects and integrates bifurcated herringbone sheds as the spatial prototype.
