    AI in Practice Competition

    The “AI in Practice Competition” challenges architects and designers from around the world to conceptualize a landmark building in the heart of London. The concept should be a harmonious blend of innovation and heritage, reflecting the dynamic essence of London’s architectural landscape.

    Description

    We are thrilled to announce the “AI in Practice Competition,” a prestigious event sponsored by Studio Tim Fu, where architects and designers from across the globe will explore the intersection of AI and architectural design. This competition challenges participants to conceptualize a landmark architecture (such as an iconic residential building or a mixed-use tower with a retail podium, etc.) in the heart of London, blending modern innovation with the city’s rich architectural heritage.

    Challenge Topic

    “Conceptualize a landmark building in the heart of London.”

    Criteria

    Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

    • Design & Aesthetics: How visually compelling and cohesive is the design?
    • Feasibility & Realism: Can the design be realistically constructed?
    • AI Workflow Innovation: How creatively and effectively has AI been utilized?
    • Originality: How unique and inventive is the concept?
    • Adherence to Client Brief: How closely does the design follow the competition brief?

    Eligibility: This competition is open to individuals only; team submissions will not be accepted.

    1st Place:

    • $2,200Cash Prize.

    Participation Guidelines

    • AI Discussion
      We will have a 30-minute introductory panel with jury members to discuss the competition and design criteria.
    • 42 Days Challenge Sprint
      Participants will have 42 days to submit their final design, including their contact information, design images, and other relevant notes, via a PA Submission Portal.
    • Jury Review
      The Jury will check all works and pick 3 Winners and 5 Honorable mention projects.
    • Internship and Employment at Studio Tim Fu:
      Winning participants will be selectively approached by STF for internships and potential employment opportunities in the London-based practice for upcoming high-profile architectural
      projects that are at the forefront of AI integration.
      Opportunities for internships and employment will be contingent upon the individual’s eligibility to work in the relevant locations, as well as other applicable legal and employment conditions
    • Winner Announcement
      Join the winner’s announcement ceremony.

    Submission Requirements

    Please submit your final design via the PA Submission Portal. Participants must submit a Concept Package by the submission deadline that includes:

    Document: A3 PDF (Max 12 pages)

    Mandatory Content:

    • Concept story
    • Minimum one exterior render
    • Minimum two interior renders

    Optional Content:

    • Additional renders
    • Plans, sections, and elevations
    • AI workflows and process details
    • Any other supporting material

    All submissions must be in English

    No submissions will be accepted by e-mail or any other medium.

    Rules

    • Anybody working with ParametricArchitecture or associated with us is not eligible to participate or receive awards in competitions hosted on ParametricArchitecture. That includes working employees at ParametricArchitecture, jury members, community moderators or contract agencies, and their direct relatives.
    • The participants or teams will be disqualified if they practice unethical practices or disregard other competition rules.
    • Contacting the jury is strictly prohibited.
    • Plagiarism of any idea/design/image/text will be disqualified with a notice.

    Tim Fu

    CEO of Studio Tim Fu

    Tim Fu is a renowned architectural designer specializing in advanced computation and artificial intelligence (AI). Emerging from Zaha Hadid Architects, he founded Studio Tim Fu, a high-tech architectural practice pioneering the integration of AI into visionary design. As an active educator, Tim has held various workshops on advanced computation in design. Furthermore, he is an outspoken advocate of the use and integration of AI in the architecture industry, speaking at various universities and conferences globally. Tim also amassed a following as a content creator, sharing his design and technological innovations on various platforms.

    Saina Abdollahzadeh

    Lead Architect (ARB, RIBA)

    Saina Abdollahzadeh is an ARB Architect and RIBA Chartered member who leads design and construction projects at Studio Tim Fu (STF). She specializes in human-centric design and the architectural application of GenAI technology. Managing projects across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, Saina integrates machine-driven solutions to elevate user experiences.

    Rada Daleva

    Project Lead

    Rada Daleva has been with Studio Tim Fu since its conception, leading the design team on projects across Europe, the Middle East, and North America. She specializes in Generative Algorithm (GenAl) design research, computational design, and project management while pioneering diffusion AI design and her furniture line.

    Marco Alfaro

    Lead Researcher

    Marco Alfaro is leading STF Labs, a computational research group at Studio Tim Fu specializing in AI integration within Architecture and urban design. He holds an MArch from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, and is an expert in parametric design, biomimicry, and data-driven strategies. His research includes the application of AI in hydroponics, AR/VR, and other advanced design methodologies.

    Intellectual Property

    All competition materials will be saved in the ParametricArchitecture Competitions files. Studio Tim Fu & ParametricArchitecture will have complete rights to publish and promote this material while always crediting the designers. Designers can share their work on various social media platforms after mentioning ParametricArchitecture & Studio Tim Fu. The material could also be used on the platform for merchandising and exhibitions.

    The authors of the projects will retain full rights to their designs for any other purpose and will be asked to grant permission. By submitting a proposal, you grant ParametricArchitecture & Studio Tim Fu permission to use the material received in both printed and online publications.

    ParametricArchitecture Competitions will also have the option to slightly modify any of the above-mentioned materials to better adapt them to the various formats and layouts that various publications may have.
