    Marking Gaudí’s Centenary: How Nature and Mathematics Shaped Antoni Gaudí’s Architecture

    On 10 June 2026, as the world marks the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s passing, it becomes clear that his work goes far beyond visual beauty. Beneath the ornate surfaces lies a deep fusion of nature and mathematical precision. Gaudí was far ahead of his time, drawing directly from organic forms and geometric logic to shape architecture that feels almost alive. His use of catenary arches, hyperbolic paraboloids, and fractal-like patterns reveals a mind that treated structure as a living system rather than static form.

    In many ways, his work anticipates today’s parametric design thinking that is achieved without digital tools, yet aligned with the logic now explored through software like Grasshopper and Rhino.

    A revisiting of the principles of Antoni Gaudí in this era, overwhelmed by the rise of computational and biomimetic architecture, reveals their relevance for architects working towards harmonizing technology with nature.
