Brick Curtain Office by Firki Studio in Karnal, Haryana, India The office building was built as an extension to the residence of a family of 3 Chartered Accountants, on an existing terrace area of 870 sq.ft. The client wanted a creative work environment comprising individual cabins, a workstation space for 8-10 staff and a compact pantry and toilet. A portion of the ground floor had to contain a lobby space for the elderly clientele and an alternative entry from the side lane. EmTech’s TWISTed Plywood at the Timber Expo in Birmingham Bending and twisting of plywood elements is governed by the dominant grain direction, and is often minimized -if not avoided- in conventional architectural and engineering designs. The Twist, however, seeks to gain full control on such material behaviour, exploiting the anisotropic properties of plywood to achieve a material system capable of producing articulated surfaces by the orientation of its elements. The Droneport project is the first initiative developed by the Norman Foster Foundation in Rwanda, Africa. The proposal is to create a network of droneports to deliver medical supplies and other necessities to areas of Africa that are difficult to access due to a lack of roads or other infrastructure and the ambition is that every small town in Africa and in other emerging economies will have its own Droneport by 2030. The MaoHaus by AntiStatics Architecture in Banqiao South Alley, Beijing, China MaoHaus is an experimental façade piece exploring historical context, material potentials, novel fabrication and performative qualities within architecture. Taking the simple frame and edge condition of the existing structure, the façade enters the space of the hutong as a flowing fabric. The Sydney Garden Pavilion by AR-MA, called Trifolium, was constructed using thousands of components. The pavilion’s curves were created by joining robotically-produced Corian panels with laser-cut mirrors. AR-MA, an Australian studio, won the second edition of the Fugitive Structures architecture competition with their Trifolium design.
