    Introduction to the workshop:

    Combinational Creativity using Generative AI

Generative AI transcends the role of a mere addition to the technological toolkit of a designer. It is a revolutionary force fostering a transformative wave across diverse sectors, from fashion to architecture, advertising to product design. This transformation is not just about automating tasks; it’s about redefining the very essence of how human artifacts are conceived, designed, and brought to reality or to market.

The principal innovation of generative AI resides in what is termed ‘Combinatorial Creativity,’ a definition entailing the synthesis and recombination of images or ideas that facilitate the generation of novel concepts that may not be readily apparent or intuitive to humans. Thus, it becomes essential for a contemporary designer to understand and embrace this new paradigm. The workshop aims not just to share and adopt new tools but to rethink the design process itself. Join Arturo Tedeschi, a renowned expert in parametric design and AI, for a comprehensive session where he will reveal his methodologies, refined through fifteen years in the forefront of architecture and industrial design.

Additionally, he will introduce AI tools and workflows that have been rigorously tested over the past two years, offering a blend of long-term expertise and cutting-edge technological advancements, providing a theoretical framework and a critical approach to the subject of generative AI.

    The scope of the workshop:

The aim of this program is to explore and develop innovative concepts for architecture concepts, products, art installations, and creative artifacts. The ultimate goal is to equip participants with a new framework for creative strategies, informed decision-making, and innovative techniques, essential skills for turning concepts into tangible projects in the era of AI. The structure of the course is based on two main theoretical foundations:

    BROADENING CREATIVE HORIZONS:

Generative AI can expose artists, designers, and creators to a wider range of styles, ideas, and combinations than they might encounter in their usual creative process. This exposure can inspire new directions in their work.

ENHANCING COLLABORATION BETWEEN HUMAN AND THE INTELLIGENT MACHINE:

AI acts as a creative partner, effectively ‘brainstorming’ with the artist, offering effortless pre-visualization and iterations. AI can help visualize multiple interpretations of an idea or concept initially represented as quick sketches or diagrams. Throughout the program, students will be challenged to generate concepts responding to specific creative categories briefs.

    Program:

    Day 1: Saturday, February 24th
    • Lecture: “Design Revolution: From Traditional Drafting to AI-Driven Creativity”.
    • Tutorial: Conceptual design with Midjourney.
      • Introduction to Midjourney’s logic and commands.
      • Midjourney prompting, introduction to RunwayML.
    • Project themes and assignments.
    • Q&A
    Day 2: Sunday, February 25th
    • Tutorial: Turning ideas into realistic visualizations.
      • Introduction to Stable Diffusion: Automatic 1111 logic, models, prompting.
      • Use ControlNet, from sketch to render from Rhino/Grasshopper models, and use OpenPose to render.
    • Project development and reviews.
    Arturo Tedeschi

    Software:

    • Midjourney (standard membership recommended)
    • Stable Diffusion and ControlNet (How to install SD and ControlNet). In the alternative, participants can use Stable Diffusion on a server relying on RunDiffusion. which is a platform focused on the Stable Diffusion model, charging based on server rental time and the number of models used (it supports ControlNet).
    • RunwayML

    Important Notes:

    • The ‘Combinational Creativity’ workshop by PAACADEMY will start on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at 14:00 GMT.
    • Total sessions: 2 Sessions
    • The teaching duration per session will be 4 hours.
    • Students will have time for a break between teaching hours.
    • Each session and the entire studio will be recorded, and videos will be available for participants just a day after the class for unlimited time.
    • PAACADEMY will provide a certificate of attendance.
    • The studio has limited seats. Tickets are non-transferable & non-refundable. Please read carefully before you register.
