Introduction to Generative Architecture with AI:
As generative AI tools start to become integral to design workflows, the challenge is no longer just about using them—it’s about mastering them with intent. While simple prompts can spark ideas, they fall short when delivering site-specific, context-aware solutions. As projects progress, architects need more than just automation; they need structured, deliberate methodologies that provide control over AI-driven processes.
As your design evolves, you need to command it rather than let AI generate your designs; thus, there is a need for a customized deliberate methodology.
Generative Architecture with AI delves into how Fredy is looking to consolidate generative AI into architectural practice—not as a replacement for critical thinking but as a powerful extension of it. Learn how to refine AI workflows, integrate multimodal approaches, and elevate your design process with precision and creativity.
The Scope of Generative Architecture with AI:
This workshop will teach you how to work with a multimodal approach: Using your model with Render tools, Stable Diffusion (SD), FLUX, and Adobe Photoshop.
Generative Architecture with AI (SD+FLUX) is divided into two main parts:
First, a general overview of what is currently achievable and what could be in the near future. In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of prompting, word and LoRa weights, Seeds, Steps, Denoising, IPadaptors, and the use of ControlNet. Next, you will learn an experimental ADE20K segmentation methodology that can provide architects with more control by defining a specific architectural category to include in their scene.
While this approach still has limitations—such as the fact that the category remains heavily influenced by the prompt—it proves effective for defining general objects in the scene using tools like Photoshop or Rhino.
If all this sounds too complex, don’t worry—it’s okay! This workshop will take the time to cover the fundamentals comprehensively, ensuring a strong foundation for the more advanced material to follow.
Next, on Day 2:
We will go over a modular tool called ComfyUI that allows for customizing your own workflows depending on your specific needs and intentions. You will practice using custom workflows using the basics you learned the day before. Next, We will learn Upscaling and a multimodal SDXL+Flux workflow that leverages LLM techniques to improve image precision and prompting efficiency.
This workshop will teach you Fredy’s approach to integrating generative AI into various stages of design to enhance, rather than replace, the architect’s critical role in the design process. This course is aimed at architects and designers who are experimenting yet looking to take AI into their professional use.

- Introductory presentation of MVRDV AI – applications of Gen AI in the design process
- Understanding the basics: Prompting, Word weights, Seed, and LoRa uses
- From 3D model to Image using Controlnet: txt2img vs img2img
- Quick Collage + Photoshop design lecture
- First part Segmentation + Photoshop Methodology
- Assignment: Finish or define Segmentation that clearly reflects your design intention (Individual work)
Day 2: Advanced techniques + ComfyUI GUI
- Intro to Flux – CLIP vs T5 Prompting
- Flux Denoising Methodology
- Second part Segmentation Methodology
- LLMs + SD + Flux + Upscaling Methodology
- Summary & Discussion
- Q&A

- Participants should ideally access Adobe Photoshop with Firefly (Generative AI capabilities)
- Participants should have access to Rendering software. Enscape or Lumion are recommended.

Fredy Fortich
Fredy Fortich is an Architect and Engineer specializing in computational design, with a particular focus on BIM coordination in Revit, performance-based design, generative design, and machine-learning methods. He holds a Master of Science in Building Technology from TU Delft in the Netherlands and a Master of Architecture from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. Currently, Fredy works as a Technical Architect at MVRDV, BIM Manager at French Studio, and an AI researcher on Diffusion Models.
