    Golden Sands Lake Grand Theater

Golden Sands Lake Grand Theater, situated on the northern fringes of Golden Sands Lake Park in Qiantang District, Hangzhou, emerges as a cultural nexus amidst its strategic adjacency to a subway station, a bustling commercial artery, and the Civic Center. Encompassing 31,889 sqm, the project features a total building area of 44,141.9 sqm, solidifying its status as the central cultural building in the entirety of the Golden Sands Lake region.

The building comprises a 1,400-seat theater and a 500-seat multipurpose hall interconnected through a shared lobby. This communal space intricately combines the entrance foyer, lounge, and exhibition hall, extending horizontally from the entrance platform towards the lakeside. This design embraces the picturesque southern lake views, creating a fluid, luminous, and captivating space. To synchronize with the urban interface on the north and the landscape interface on the south, the grand theater assumes a flexible and undulating form, engaging in a dance with both the city and Golden Sands Lake.

Its perforated surface, exuding an effervescent artistic ambiance, delineates the waterfront space facing the lake and the frontal plaza along Golden Sands Avenue. The elevated landscaped corridor seamlessly links the front plaza and waterfront space, meandering through open platforms, galleries, and slopes, both within and outside the ethereal structure. This integration enhances the overall vibrancy and sense of place in the lake area, captivating the visitors.

The perforated facade, an artistic exterior consisting of over 5,000 triangular elements, creates a texture that seamlessly blends solid and void. The theater stands as a free-spirited, flexible, and full-bodied structure, gracefully poised by the shores of Golden Sands Lake. The perforated architectural skin engenders a continuous open gray space between the exterior and internal functions, casting enchanting interplays of light and shadow. As individuals travel the space, they encounter the allure of architectural design and bask in the beauty of Golden Sands Lake.

Beyond the conventional performance spaces, the functional area on the second, third, and fourth floors incorporates training classrooms accessible to the public. The ground-level elevated walkway and lakeside section are designated for commercial functions catering to the city’s denizens, offering 24-hour services.

The Grand Theater becomes a lively hub around the clock by fusing these diverse functions. This augments revenue and positions the theater as an integral part of the urban fabric, enriched with public and everyday significance. The theater seamlessly integrates into urban life, emerging as a delightful destination for waterfront activities and an appreciation of the scenic grandeur of Golden Sands Lake.
