With the launch of MU05-106 ARCHITECT, the collaborative team of Mauron Musy, revolutionizing watchmaking, and Arturo Tedeschi, spearheading algorithmic design and parametric modeling, has defined a groundbreaking moment in horology. Surpassing the limits of conventional skeleton watch designs, the MU05-106 ARCHITECT features remarkable asymmetric and deconstructivist segments crafted by algorithms.

It is not the first time that architects, praised or even mocked as Jack of all trades, have tried their hands at other fields like fashion, research, writing, and, in fact, watchmaking. To name a few watches designed by architects; the Minimalist LeBond Souto de Moura watch by Architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, the unique Serpenti Tuboga x Tadao Ando watch for Bulgari by Architect Tadao Ando, the Serene Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève Sapphire Frank Gehry for the luxury brand Louis Vuitton by Frank Gehry’s, the angular Lebond Siza by Architect Álvaro Siza taking cues from his Leça swimming pool complex in Portugal, and the Rafael Moneo x Cauny by architect Rafael Moneo.

But what sets MU05-106 ARCHITECT apart is the involvement of computational design and algorithms in modeling the luxury skeleton watch and a top-tier brand like Mauron Musy’s collaboration with Arturo Tedeschi, a pioneer in parametric design.

The MU05-106 ARCHITECT, born out of the collaborative efforts of Mauron Musy and Arturo Tedeschi, is held in a 44mm case displaying the skeletonized MM01-SK movement and a stunning posh multi-faceted dial featuring luminescent-tipped diamond-polished hands.

Embracing the cutting-edge technologies embodying algorithms, the dial is designed as three superimposing layers that can never be drawn on paper with hands but can only be generated, adding to its 3-dimensionality. The interaction of these intricately designed layers on the dial is crafted with precision, creating an asymmetric composition and offering a striking appearance.

The layers of the MU05-106 skeleton watch epitomize dynamism and movement as they interact with light and create an interplay of reflections and shadows. Each of its multifaceted surfaces is crafted with precision, polished, satin-finished, beveled, sunray-brushed, or grained, accentuating the impact of light on its skeleton structure.

Celebrating not only the label ‘Swiss Crafted’ but also the industrial ethic that Mauron Musy upholds, the inscription ‘Swiss Crafted’ is engraved on the fractal design of the geometric metal skeleton frame MU05-106 watch. This emphasizes the fact that the revolutionary MU05-106 watch, bringing the distinct areas of computational design and watch engineering together, is designed, developed, and manufactured in Switzerland. On its first layer, the brand emblem ‘AT’ and ‘µµ’ logos are engraved in addition to a minute track, and an individual serial number.

With Mauron Musy’s exclusive patented nO-Ring technology, stripping of gaskets from the computationally designed peculiar case of the MU05-106 ARCHITECT, and reinforcing the Swiss-crafted timepiece with 36 highly technical elements, guarantees a 300 meter water resistance. Mauron Musy’s unique, in fact world’s first mechanical gasket-free sealing method gives MU05-106 the upper hand in reducing the maintenance costs due to polymer aging.

The MU05-106 ARCHITECT comes with a five-year warranty and both leather and rubber straps with a steel and grade 5 titanium deployant clasp, also known as the buckle in layman’s language. The straps can be changed without any hassle, simply without the need for any additional tools, enabling quick interchangeability and personalization.

The MU05-106 ARCHITECT watch is certainly writing a new chapter in the history of horology, breaking away from the traditions, and paving the way for innovations in watchmaking. As parametric modeling enters the world of horology, it gradually enriches the art of watchmaking from watch engineering to watch architecture, emphasizing the aesthetics of watches. What waits in the womb of time for the future timepieces is yet to be revealed.
