    Enscape: Elevating Real-Time Rendering

    In the field of architectural design and visualization, Enscape, as a real-time rendering and virtual reality plugin, has emerged as a game changer, integrating seamlessly with widely used design software such as Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Vectorworks and Archicad, allowing users to create immersive visual experiences without the need for extensive training in complex rendering software. This intuitive tool, with its rapid output generation, not only enhances architectural design but also improves collaboration throughout various stages of project development, fundamentally changing how architects, designers, and clients interact with the design process.

    Enscape’s user-friendly interface and its standout features has enabled users of the plugin to develop and render visuals in real-time. With the release of Enscape 4.1 and its latest features, it has elevated its real-time rendering quality further with the introduction of the Enscape Impact add-on which enables users to optimize their design process with building performance metrics.

    1. Integrate Enscape Impact Add-On in Real-Time Rendering

    The Enscape Impact add-on, developed in partnership with global climate tech company IES, encourages users to strengthen their workflow by integrating energy efficiency and sustainability without having to compromise on the visual impact of their designs. Architects and designers can incorporate the latest add-on into their design workflow to learn about their building’s future environmental impact especially in its early stages of development. This building energy tool transforms architectural design and real-time rendering by embedding energy analysis directly into the visualization process.

    On activating the add-on, the Dials panel showcases the energy performance of the building design. By inputting basic data such as the location, building type and construction year, designers can now view the energy information of their building such as the peak loads, total carbon emission per year, energy use intensity per square meter and the estimated energy end-use distribution to guide their early design decisions. 

    Furthermore, once the energy analysis is complete, toggling on the ‘False Color’ tab in Settings will switch the real-time render to a color scale mode whereby upon activating each of the four outputs (Peak Loads, Heating Energy, Cooling Energy, and Solar Gains), users can now visualize the building’s expected energy performance as a color scale which is distributed onto the entire building.

    Now, with Enscape Impact, it is possible to create environmentally conscious designs in the early stages of development and make data-driven decisions on energy use. Architects and designers can analyze their building’s performance in real time, giving immediate feedback on their workflow by adjusting the building design based on these values. This latest feature enhances both the aesthetic and functional quality of buildings while adapting sustainable and cost-effective methods. It allows them to demonstrate a building’s energy consumption to stakeholders and clients for enhanced collaboration. 

    The Enscape Impact add-on has revolutionized building energy modeling. With easy-to-read charts and diagrams, users can intuitively display and create different scenarios in their real-time models to showcase how design choices and geometry adjustments impact the building’s performance (e.g., natural light vs. artificial lighting).

    2. Apply Chaos AI Enhancer

    Enscape 4.1 offers a new Chaos AI Enhancer feature which will elevate real-time visualizations with even higher realism. This experimental feature facilitates AI to improve Enscape assets, mainly vegetation and people assets, without post-production or additional tools. Real-time rendering in Enscape will now have an edge over other time-consuming render engines as the visualizations are upscaled and instantly produced with realistic resolution, all with the click of a button, enhancing overall visual quality and detail.

     3. Incorporate Artistic Visual Modes

    An additional feature of Enscape 4.1 which has enhanced the way designers can express their design ideas in a unique way, is the introduction of artistic visual modes. Designers can now express their real-time render in various creative formats such as a pen/pencil sketch or watercolor drawings which can be incorporated into the different stages of the design. This feature can be applied to still images, video run-throughs and directly to the real-time 3D model while changing views. The artistic visual mode selection can be accessed by clicking on Enscape’s Visual Settings.

    This feature of representing the building design in an abstract way adds a creative charm to early concept stages in the design process as users can produce these effects quickly all in one go. It will enable designers to expand the artistic range of their design visuals.

    4. Simulate Coloured Shadows and Dynamic Lighting

    Real-time rendering of interior spaces in Enscape 4.1 is now enhanced with impactful lighting and coloured shadows. The addition of realistic coloured shadow patterns enhances the realism of an interior space thereby helping to convey the atmosphere of a design. This new feature enables the addition of textures to glass materials and has the dropped shadows reflect the textured patterns without the need to model additional geometry. Enscape also enables the addition of a splash of color to artificially lit interiors to complement natural light and create a dynamic effect.

    5. Effective Use of Assets

    The latest version of Enscape provides users with a broader asset library consisting of a wider selection of new vegetation and unique people assets. This release features vegetation assets that are native to Europe, North America and Japan and a collection of people assets in various outfits and postures. This addition enables designers and architects to make an impact with real-time rendering by populating their scenes more effectively, utilizing unique vegetation and people assets to respond to the project’s location and context. This is an exciting feature in Enscape as realism can be achieved at every stage of the project, indicating that the design is responsive to its surroundings.

    6. Utilize Integrated Graphics Support and Chaos Cloud

    For architects and designers who are traveling or working on-site, the latest Enscape release has integrated graphics support that extends the ability of Enscape on Windows computers without dedicated GPUs. This is a great addition, enabling users to enjoy a more flexible and cost-effective way of visualizing. Utilizing Chaos Cloud, users can also easily share renders, panoramas, and virtual tours with team members and clients regardless of location leading to improved designs reviews and faster feedback loops.
