China showcased its latest humanoid robots during the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations, turning a traditional festival into a stage for cutting-edge technology and entertainment. The highlight was the annual CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China’s most-watched television event, where four regional robotics companies, Unitree Robotics, Galbot, Noetix, and MagicLab, presented their machines in a series of public performances broadcast to millions.

At the gala, dozens of humanoid robots performed choreographed routines that mixed martial arts, dance, and comedy sketches. For example, Unitree robots performed synchronized martial arts moves, including waving swords, staffs, and even nunchucks in proximity to child performers, demonstrating advanced balance and coordination. Other segments showed robots dancing and interacting with human singers and actors, and participating in lighthearted sketches.

These robot performances reflect rapid progress in China’s robotics sector. Local companies are preparing for major funding events, and China already accounts for a large share of global humanoid robot production. The state and industry leaders have highlighted these machines as symbols of future technological leadership and manufacturing strength.

The inclusion of humanoid robots in such a high-profile cultural celebration marks a noticeable shift from past Lunar New Year shows, where robots made only simple appearances. This year’s displays suggest China is aiming to merge tradition with technological industry, using festive broadcasts to highlight domestic innovation and encourage public interest in robotics.

Industry observers say the gala served as a national stage for local technology companies to present their latest achievements. The strong public response was clear, as some robot models displayed during the event quickly gained attention online and saw a rise in consumer interest. At the same time, experts noted that the performances were carefully programmed and controlled, designed for stage conditions.

Overall, the robot performances were both a public spectacle and a statement about China’s growing role in advanced manufacturing and robotics industries.
