Straw Bale School is Nuru Karim’s proposal for a secondary school located in 30 kilometers west of the Ntchisi Forest Reserve in Malawi, Africa. The Indian architecture practice Nudes, led by Nuru Karim believes the design responds to the brief focused on modularity, incremental expansion, deployment and sustainable technologies. The Parks at Amara Chapel by Buensalido Architects in Cebu City, Philippines This project was done for one of the biggest property developers in the country, Ayala Land. The site is in the second phase of their high-end subdivision in Cebu City called the Parks at Amara, and we were asked to design a unique garden chapel that still exuded timelessness and class, as the development targets the upscale sector of society. One Main Office Renovation by dECOi Architects The project essentially comprises two planes – the floor and ceiling, both of which are articulated as continuous surfaces inflected by function. The curvilinearity expresses both the digital genesis and the seamless fabrication logic, with the architect providing actual machining files to the fabricator. Buga Wood Pavilion designed by ICD/ITKE at the University of Stuttgart. The BUGA Wood Pavilion celebrates a new approach to digital timber construction. Its segmented wood shell is based on biological principles found in the plate skeleton of sea urchins, which have been studied by the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) and the Institute for Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) at the University of Stuttgart for almost a decade. Located along the Mission Reach section of the San Antonio River, Confluence Park is an educational park focusing on the critical role of water in the regional ecosystems. Designed by Matsys in collaboration with Lake|Flato Architects, Rialto Studio, and Architectural Engineering Collaborative, the park consists of 3.5 acres of native planting, a 2000 square foot multi-purpose building, a 6000 square foot central pavilion, and 3 smaller “satellite” pavilions dispersed throughout the park.
