The project is located at the intersection point between the large business area on Teheran-ro and the densely populated housing neighbourhood, in other words, between the city’s domiciliation and labour. The Design Citadel is a proposal by NYXO Design for a design center in the site of the old Baghdad Governorate Building, built in the early 20th century now heavily damaged. The design for the new Design Center is directly inspired by the cultural and geographical context. Traditional Iraqi architecture and the special climate condition are the driver factors of the project. The site has been subdivided in different units, representing the many faces of design. Kilifi Shade Structure was built by Robert Fung Studio in December 2018 for the Kilifi New Year 2019 Festival on the Kenyan Coast. The project was constructed over the course of a month using only locally grown and sourced materials, Eucalyptus timbers, Sisal poles and ropes. The Kilifi Shade Structure was designed to keep festivals goers cool during the heat of the day at the sites main stage, it is a permanent structure that will be used for future events.
